Vloggers Face Backlash After Throwing Shade at Anne Curtis for Promoting Siquijor
Vloggers Shaun Pelayo and Crissa Liaging (known as Habibi) are facing backlash after seemingly criticizing actress-host Anne Curtis for her recent Siquijor content. The pair voiced their frustrations in a TikTok livestream on Saturday, April 18, claiming that their efforts to promote the province had gone unnoticed by the local government.
This came shortly after Anne Curtis posted her island getaway content from Siquijor in March, where she promoted the beautiful tourist spots as part of a project she was working on. In her viral Instagram videos, Anne was seen hanging from a long nylon cord over a Siquijor lake, enjoying the scenery in a two-piece bikini, and later posing in front of the island’s famous molave trees and waterfalls.

In another IG post, Curtis showed her backside to the camera with the Siquijor falls as backdrop. “Magical,” she said.

She made yet another post this time posing with giant molave trees at the Isla del Fuego.
Her posts garnered nearly two million reactions, making waves across social media, including TikTok. However, Pelayo and Liaging expressed their disappointment that their own efforts to promote the island did not receive the same level of recognition.
“Ako promoting the island again pero walang acknowledgement (We’ve been promoting the island again but we have no acknowledgement),” Pelayo stated in Bisaya on a TikTok video, which was later removed from their platforms but re-uploaded by netizens.
Liaging added:
“If I will be the ano [local government], I will say thank you for always promoting Siquijor.”

In response, many netizens quickly called out the vloggers for their comments. Former Commission on Elections commissioner and PWD party-list nominee Rowena Guanzon, for instance, expressed her disbelief in a Facebook post, saying:
“Sino ka teh? Nakakalokah mga tao ngayon! Mas pasalamatan ko pa manananggal dahil dun ako na-curious para bumisita sa Siquijor nung bata-bata ang lola niyo, ganda ng mga view.”
(Who are you? I can’t believe the nerve of some people these days. I would rather thank the manananggal because it is what piqued my interest to visit Siquijor when I was young, as well as its beautiful views.)
Many others defended Anne, pointing out that Siquijor has been renowned for its stunning beauty even before the influx of celebrities and content creators. While Pelayo and Liaging have not yet directly addressed the backlash, Liaging has continued to post videos on TikTok, focusing on her son and her soap business since the incident.
