The “Miracle” House That Defied the LA Wildfires

In a shocking turn of events, a $9 million Malibu mansion owned by businessman David Steiner has miraculously survived the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. Despite being surrounded by rubble and ashes, Steiner’s three-story house stands tall, a testament to its sturdy construction.

The Palisades fire ravaged the neighborhood, destroying over 20,000 acres and more than 5,000 homes and businesses. The inferno threatened homes near Calabasas and Hidden Hills, with authorities suspecting arson. Celebrities like Paris Hilton and Billy Crystal were among those who lost their homes in the disaster.

Steiner, a retired waste-management tycoon, was shocked to learn that his property had escaped the flames. He had received a video of the fire engulfing the street and thought his house was doomed. However, as news reports and pictures began flooding in, Steiner realized his house had survived against all odds.

The 4,200-square-foot mansion was built to withstand earthquakes, with an ultra-sturdy construction, stone and stucco walls, and a fireproof roof. Steiner credits the robust architecture for saving his property. “It was constructed like a cruise ship,” he said.

While Steiner is grateful for his good fortune, he acknowledges that he is among the lucky ones in Los Angeles. His house was not his family’s primary residence, and he understands that many others have lost their homes and cherished memories.

Steiner’s insurance will cover only 50% of the damages, and he expects some smoke damage to his estate. Despite this, he remains thankful and sympathetic to those who have lost their homes. “Don’t pray for me,” he said. “Material goods are what I lost. Pray for those who have lost their homes and memories.”
