A family of five from Rotherham is on the brink of homelessness after being ordered to vacate their home due to unpaid rent. Parents Amy Winter and Joshua Thain, along with their three children, are struggling to cope with the looming eviction.
The family has been battling to make rent payments, and despite their efforts, they have fallen behind. Amy and Joshua, who are both receiving Universal Credit, claim that Barnsley Council has been aware of their situation but has failed to provide adequate support.
With a fourth child on the way, Amy is desperate for a solution. “We’re worried all the time,” she explained. “We’ve asked family members for help, but they’re unable to provide accommodation.” The only offer of assistance has come from Joshua’s uncle, who lives in Somerset.
The family’s situation is further complicated by the fact that the property is owned by Sanctuary Housing, and the tenancy agreement was in the name of Joshua’s late mother, Victoria Robertshaw. Amy is frustrated with the lack of support from Barnsley Council, saying, “They need to take responsibility and figure out what they’re going to do to help us, instead of just giving us mixed messages.”
