Nancy Guthrie was likely ‘stalked for some time’ before kidnapping, expert says

The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of Today host Savannah Guthrie, continues in Tucson, with no arrests linked directly to her suspected kidnapping.

Investigators face major obstacles, including limited physical evidence, rugged terrain, and uncertainty surrounding a reported ransom message.

Former CIA officer and FBI special agent Tracy Walder believes the abduction was deliberate and carefully planned, not a random crime.

She points out that no suspect DNA was found inside the home, suggesting the perpetrator may have worn gloves or protective gear.

Authorities also revealed that Nancy’s doorbell camera was disabled around 1:47 a.m., indicating the intruder likely knew the location of security devices.

Walder believes the suspect may have studied Nancy’s routine beforehand, noting that her personal information was easily accessible online and her home is relatively secluded.

She dismisses the idea of a robbery gone wrong, explaining that kidnappings are typically targeted and intentional rather than spontaneous.

While a Los Angeles man was arrested for sending fake ransom messages, officials say he is not connected to the disappearance. A $50,000 reward remains active as the FBI urges the public to share any credible information.
