The Norwegian Nobel Committee has chosen Venezuelan opposition leader María Corina Machado as the recipient of the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize. Machado’s work advocating for democratic reforms and human rights in Venezuela earned her international recognition amidst ongoing political turmoil.

Meanwhile, former President Donald Trump, who publicly campaigned for the award citing peace deals and conflict resolutions, was passed over. Trump’s claims that he “ended six wars” and secured major diplomatic breakthroughs failed to sway the committee.
Machado’s victory symbolizes global support for democracy activism and represents a rebuke to Trump’s self-promotion. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 10 in Oslo.
