Larry Ely Murillo-Moncada vanished on a cold November night in 2009 after running away from home in Council Bluffs, Iowa. The 25-year-old was known to have experienced hallucinations and had recently stopped his medication, worrying his parents.

He was found nearly a decade later in a chilling location: wedged in a gap behind refrigerators in the now-shuttered supermarket where he had worked. Workers clearing out the building stumbled upon his remains in 2019, but positive identification took months.

Investigators believe Murillo-Moncada climbed on top of the store’s coolers and slipped into the dangerous 18-inch space, where he became trapped. The loud hum of refrigerators masked any cries for help.

His passing was ruled accidental, and the case remains one of the most unusual discoveries of a missing person after years of searching.
