The Loss of Autumn Bushman Sparks Calls for Action Against Bullying in Virginia

Autumn Bushman was a bright and compassionate 10-year-old who stood up for others, but her courage was met with continued bullying at school. On March 21, 2025, she died by suicide, devastating her family and community.

Autumn’s parents said the bullying began soon after she started fourth grade and worsened despite efforts to alert school authorities. The digital nature of bullying meant she could never truly escape it, even at home.

Her personality changed in the weeks before her death, marked by withdrawal and sadness. Family and friends describe her as a joyful girl whose kindness left an imprint on those around her.

Autumn’s funeral invited the public to celebrate her life and reinforce the urgent need for better bullying policies and community care.
