Chris Dreja, a founding member and guitarist of The Yardbirds, died at 79 after years of health struggles. The news was shared by his sister-in-law, who also praised the care provided by Dreja’s wife, Kate. Guitar legend Jimmy Page honored Dreja’s memory on social media.

Born in 1945, Dreja helped form the Yardbirds, a band known for its innovative fusion of blues and rock. He played on every Yardbirds album and was instrumental in their sound. Dreja’s switch from rhythm guitar to bass coincided with the arrival of Jimmy Page.

He chose photography over joining Led Zeppelin and remained respected for his musicianship and artistic work. Dreja’s legacy lives on through the music and influence he helped create.
