A recent study published in the Journal of Nutrition, Health and Ageing quantified the health effects of common foods, discovering that a single serving of cola could reduce a person’s healthy lifespan by an estimated 12 minutes. Researchers analyzed tens of thousands of dietary items alongside extensive epidemiological data covering various health-risk factors.

The high sugar and sodium levels in cola drinks increase susceptibility to cardiovascular disease and gastric cancer. Notably, those consuming large amounts of cola often also partake in other unhealthy behaviors, amplifying risks.

Though consuming cola in moderation is unlikely to be catastrophic, the study strongly advises mindful consumption as part of a balanced diet to maximize health outcomes.
