On Sunday, a devastating shooting at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Michigan left four people dead and multiple others injured. The suspect, Thomas Jacob Sanford, a 40-year-old Iraq War veteran, launched his assault by driving through the church doors and opening fire with an assault rifle.

Sanford then set the building ablaze using gasoline, further complicating rescue efforts. Police confronted and fatally shot Sanford within eight minutes of receiving the initial emergency call.

The church congregation was attending Sunday service at the time. Law enforcement continues to investigate the attack and assess the extent of victims inside the burned structure.
