On a routine evening in August 2022, Lucas and Nicole Shoffner’s roadside repair turned into a harrowing accident when a pickup truck struck them. Lucas’s split-second decision to push Nicole away saved her life, but he sustained critical injuries.

Lucas was admitted to UT Medical Center with life-threatening trauma including a brain bleed. He underwent emergency treatments and was placed in a medically induced coma.
Nicole, despite suffering a fractured hip and road rash, has been a pillar of strength at Lucas’s side. Friends have launched GoFundMe efforts to support the couple through their long recovery journey.
