Lulu Gribbin’s peaceful vacation to Florida quickly turned into a nightmare when she was attacked by a shark while swimming with her twin sister Ellie. The 15-year-old remembers seeing only a shadow before losing her left hand and later part of her right leg after extensive surgeries.

Ellie’s quick response — comforting her sister and helping her stay conscious — was key in the days following the attack. Lulu was life-flighted to a Pensacola hospital, enduring months of medical care.

Despite the trauma, Lulu is determined and making strides in her rehabilitation, now focusing on ambitious goals like the Paralympics with steadfast family support.
The family’s journey inspired the launch of a foundation to raise awareness and aid for amputees and those facing similar challenges.
