When Love Comes with Strings

My dad and I never had a perfect relationship. After the divorce, he remarried and drifted farther away. When he gave me a massive wedding gift—a down payment for a house—I thought things were finally improving. Chris and I were beyond grateful, starting with new hope.

Then, I got a shocking message demanding the money back. Confused, I called him. His reason was painful: he wanted a big wedding to impress his new wife and friends. Our quiet ceremony felt like a betrayal to him, and the gift had strings attached after all.

Furious and hurt, I refused to be controlled. I saved the money and returned it. I told him he couldn’t buy my life or decisions. The goodbye was hard, but it freed me to live a life built on my own choices and love.
