University of Kentucky Cheerleader Charged After Newborn Found Dead

On August 27, police responded to Snelling’s Lexington home after reports of an unresponsive infant. Officers found the tiny baby, wrapped and concealed in a trash bag within a closet. Laken Snelling, a senior cheerleader, admitted giving birth and concealing the event. Now facing serious charges, Snelling pleaded not guilty in Fayette District Court.

The infant’s cause of death remains undetermined as the coroner’s office awaits further investigation. Snelling is under house arrest and has been ordered to stay with her parents until trial.
