Georgia Family’s Toddler in ICU After Dozens of Yellow Jacket Stings

Two-year-old Beckham Reed’s life was forever changed after he was stung more than 150 times by yellow jackets while playing on his family’s property in Georgia. The toddler was swarmed when he accidentally ran over a yellow jacket nest on his electric toy car.

Though he was initially treated and sent home, Beckham’s condition worsened within hours. His skin turning yellow was a sign of danger, and a second hospital stay revealed multi-organ failure as his kidney, liver, and heart began to shut down. Beckham was born with only one functioning kidney, making his condition more severe.

At the hospital’s ICU in Savannah, Beckham is receiving dialysis and ventilator support. Though the path to recovery is expected to be long and difficult, caregivers say Beckham is strong and fighting. The family has opened a fundraising page to assist with medical expenses and asks for prayers and support during this trying time.
