Katharine, Duchess of Kent, Dies at 92, Remembered for Compassion and Music

The Duchess of Kent, Katharine, has died at 92, Buckingham Palace announced with great sadness. Surrounded by family, she passed peacefully at Kensington Palace. Married to Prince Edward, Duke of Kent, she was known for her compassion, charitable work, and love of music.

She was a familiar figure at events like Wimbledon and took personal joy in supporting various causes, including volunteering and music education. Her genuine warmth earned her affection from many, both inside and outside royal circles.

Katharine’s journey began in Yorkshire where she was born into an aristocratic family before marrying into royalty in 1961. She was the first royal in centuries to become a Catholic, a decision reflecting her strong faith. Having reduced her public duties in 2002, she still appeared at major family celebrations. She leaves behind her husband and three children.
