Bruce Willis Living in Separate Home as Dementia Progresses, Emma Heming Reveals

Emma Heming Willis, wife of actor Bruce Willis, shared in an ABC interview that Bruce now resides in a nearby “second home” with around-the-clock care because of advancing frontotemporal dementia.

Diagnosed in 2023 following aphasia symptoms, Bruce’s cognitive abilities have declined, especially his language skills. Emma highlighted the challenges as Bruce’s brain continues to fail, though his physical mobility remains good.

The move to a separate, one-level home was a tough but necessary choice to create a calm space that meets his needs while supporting the family’s lifestyle, including their daughters’ activities.

Emma described the home as filled with love, warmth, and laughter, emphasizing visits from friends who keep Bruce connected and engaged.

She recounted how Bruce gradually changed from a warm, talkative man to someone more quiet and detached over time, a shift she found deeply distressing.

The family has adjusted communication strategies to suit Bruce’s condition, focusing on connection rather than words.

Emma is advocating to raise awareness about FTD, one of the most common types of dementia affecting younger adults. She encourages early diagnosis and support for families affected by the disease.

Their story raises important conversations about caregiving, love, and resilience in the face of devastating illness.
