Heartbreaking Update Following 5-Year-Old’s Storm Drain Rescue

While playing outside with her brothers one evening, 5-year-old Zaria Miller was unexpectedly swept into a storm drain near her Sarasota home. The water carried her for about 100 yards before firefighters emergency rescued the child.

Sarasota County Fire Department’s Assistant Chief Tim Dorsey described the rescue as extremely difficult and dangerous. The sheriff’s office confirmed they are investigating the incident.

Community members remember the alarming sounds and urgent calls for help as the event unfolded quickly. The neighborhood has since come together to support Zaria’s family, including a GoFundMe campaign.

Sadly, almost a week later, Zaria’s family shared the sorrowful news of her passing, expressing thanks for all the love and support received.

This tragic event highlights the dangers of storm drains and intense water flow in residential areas and underscores the need for awareness.
