13 Years After Disappearance, Daughter’s Sketchbook Sheds Light on Guadalupe Peak Case

Samuel and Simone Jones set off in 2000 to hike and camp at Guadalupe Peak, aiming to marvel at the stars and capture them on paper. Simone’s last words to her mother were filled with excitement about painting the Milky Way—a promise that remained unfulfilled.

When they vanished without a trace, family and searchers feared the worst. Samuel’s truck and their hiking log confirmed their start on the trail, but no other clues surfaced.

Thirteen years later, hikers found a tent and remains on a difficult ledge, along with Simone’s sketchbook containing a cryptic drawing of a figure named Caleb.

Detectives traced Caleb Brody, a troubled man from the area, but he denied involvement, and no proof linked him to the disappearance. The official cause of death could not be determined.

Family preserves Simone’s art as a reminder that no detail is insignificant when searching for missing persons.

Their story remains a haunting mystery, inspiring calls for persistence and openness in investigations.
