What began as bloating and fatigue thought to be perimenopause turned into a bowel cancer diagnosis for Kayla Holmes. Emergency surgery revealed stage three cancer, marking the start of a tough journey.

After months of chemotherapy, scans briefly showed remission, but the cancer returned quickly and aggressively. Kayla tried more treatment but ultimately decided to stop, choosing to focus on her family in quality care settings.

St Christopher’s Hospice helped Kayla spend her final weeks at home and in the hospice with compassion and respect. She passed away on June 29, confronting mortality with clarity and courage.
Kayla’s story reminds us to trust our bodies and to find strength and joy even amid hardship.
